SUMMARY:Mini Split Design\, Installation\, and Performance (Part 1 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:Part 1 of 2  \nPart one of this series will provide an overview and introduction to mini split systems. Dan Perunko will also address the pros and cons as well as the relative efficiencies available for each system. In this session\, we will also review how these smaller systems provide advantages for mechanical system design and layout. \nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\nOverview types of mini split systems\nPros and cons of the different system types\nLoad calcs\, system layout and install possibilities\, examples from completed projects\nCalifornia research relating to mini split systems\nClass poll: system types\, pros and cons\, system layout\, system sizing\nRefrigerant types\, global warming interaction\, typical system leakage rates\nLine set installation practices\nCritical field installation techniques to prevent refrigerant leakage\nPhotos from the field\, line set testing results from real systems\nQ&A\n\nThe objective of this course is that at the conclusion\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the common types of mini split systems used in residential and light commercial buildings\nDiscuss the pros and cons of different mini split system types\, including items related to both room comfort and system efficiency\nIdentify critical installation issues\nDemonstrate line set testing best practices related to leak prevention\nDescribe how different successful duct installation needs to be for mini split systems compared to typical equipment\nExplain the role of released refrigerants in global climate change\nRecognize and and retrain field staff on proper use of new refrigerants\n\nContinuing Education Credits: \nCABEC: 3
