DESCRIPTION:Description \nResidential heating and cooling load calculations are the essential first step in specifying right-sized heating and cooling equipment. The accuracy of the calculation is only as good as the inputs\, and the inputs are only as good as your knowledge of the ACCA Manual J procedures.  This training will recap what a residential load calculation is\, why a load calculation is an essential step in achieving indoor thermal comfort as well as successful electrification.  The majority of the day will be used to teach you how to do a residential heating and cooling load calculation per ACCA Manual J procedures. \nKey topics include:  \n\nWhat a heating and cooling load calculation is\nWhat the ultimate goal of the load calculation is\nWhat measurements are needed and the measurement procedures\nChoosing appropriate design temperature conditions\nHow to describe the construction details that are needed for the load calculation procedure\nDiscussion of the challenges of accurately describing construction components\nDispel the myth of a load calculation leading to possible under-sizing HVAC equipment\nExplain inherent safety factors within the ACCA Manual J procedures\nHow to use the load calculation to guide energy retrofit improvements\nHow to review results and identify errors before moving on to equipment selection\n\nWhat Attendees Will Learn: \nBy the end of this training\, attendees will be able to: \n\nCollect and document the measurements and building characteristics needed for accurate results.\nSelect appropriate design temperature conditions and understand their impact on equipment sizing.\nAvoid common load calculation errors and identify issues before equipment selection.\nUnderstand the built-in safety factors within Manual J and dispel common myths about undersizing equipment.\nUse load calculation results to support heat pump sizing\, electrification projects\, and energy retrofit recommendations.\nImprove HVAC system design decisions that enhance comfort\, efficiency\, and overall system performance.\n\nThis course focuses on practical application\, helping participants confidently perform and interpret load calculations that lead to properly sized equipment and better project outcomes.
