SUMMARY:Electrification and Green Building
DESCRIPTION:View a free course with an overview of electrification.\n\n\nEach month in 2023\, USGBC will share a handpicked education course or two about a specific aspect of green building that will be free for that month only. For the month of December\, take advantage of a free course sharing an overview of the benefits of electrification for green builders. \nElectrification and Green Building \nBasic level | 1 CE credit | Created by USGBC and Triple Green Building Group\, LLC | Presentation format \nBeneficial electrification is a growing strategy for buildings to achieve low operational carbon emissions. Green building professionals are working to achieve energy optimization through electrification. Hear from an experienced green building professional and learn about the benefits of electrification\, related technologies and strategies\, and examples of what leading cities are doing. \n\nThis is an on-demand course\, but offered for free for the month of Dec\, and worth 1 CE credit.

SUMMARY:Residential Space Conditioning and Water Heating (TECH – Single Family)
DESCRIPTION:Overview – Electrify my Home \nElectrify My Home provides training based on real-world experience with residential electrification. With hundreds of high-performance projects completed to date\, Electrify My Home shares its experience with others in a fast-paced training program that will benefit all parts of your company. We share principles of “Install Small” and “Good Electrification” processes that will keep your customers satisfied while simultaneously optimizing future grid reliability. \nOnly enrolled TECH Clean California Participating Contractor company staff may take this course. Course registration will be verified to ensure Participating Contractor company has completed a Trade Professional Participation Agreement (TPPA). Registration may be canceled if a TPPA has not been completed prior to course start date. \nInstructor: \nLarry has 40 years HVAC trade experience in service\, installation\, sales\, and management. His specialization is house-as-a-system electrification and has coined the process and practices “Good Electrification” and “Install small” right sizing for climate and comfort. \nLarry spent the first ten years of his career working on Industrial and Commercial systems and later transitioned to residential HVAC. As a service technician and sales professional\, Larry has sold more than 20 million dollars of HVAC product. In 2011\, Larry obtained his BPI-certified Building Analyst certification and has concentrated on home performance ever since. Beginning in 2014\, Larry began focusing on replacing gas furnaces with high-efficiency heat pumps. He has since designed and installed over 400 electrification projects in the greater Bay Area of California. \nLarry started his all-electric gas conversion company\, Electrify My Home\, in 2019. Larry is an advisory board member of the Building Decarbonization Coalition and is still active as a Leading Light representative. Electrify My Home is a recognized trainer on residential home-electrification sales\, system-design\, and installation for the State of California’s TECH Initiative. \nFormat: \n\nLive Classroom\n\nDuration: \n\n3 Days\n\nSyllabus: \nResidential Space Conditioning & Water Heating Electrification Course Overview \nCredits: \n\n\n\n\n\nBPI (20 CEUs)\nNATE (24 CEUs x 11 specialties)\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nClick on date to register: \nDecember 6th – 8th\, 2023\nConcord\, CA  \nJanuary 24th – 26th\, 2024\nElk Grove\, CA  \nFebruary 28th – March 1st\, 2024\nModesto\, CA

SUMMARY:ELECTRIFY EFFICIENTLY: OPERATING A HEAT PUMP – BEST PRACTICES TO MINIMIZE CALL BACKS
DESCRIPTION:Part 4 of 5 – December 8\, 2023 (12pm – 1:30pm) \nHeat pumps are inherently different than gas furnaces or gas water heaters. Contractors and other industry professionals must take time to educate customers\, clients\, and others on these differences to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. This webinar will outline best practices for system operation of ducted and ductless mini-splits\, unitary heat pumps\, and heat pump water heaters. \nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\nHeat pump operation: characteristics and differences with gas furnaces or water heaters\nAdding value to the customer journey\nMinimizing call backs\nQ&A\n\nThe objective of this course is that at the conclusion\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain one reason why heat pumps operate differently than gas furnaces\nName at least two points in the customer journey where education on heat pump operation are essential\nDescribe proper multi-split system operation in a way a typical customer can understand\nSummarize why customer satisfaction is critical to the adoption of heat pumps and home electrification\n\nTo enroll into the entire “Electrify Efficiently (5 Part Series)” register HERE.

SUMMARY:ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS FOR BACKUP POWER
DESCRIPTION:While there are economic incentives for grid-interactive customers who combine PV generation with energy storage\, customers when polled\, said that their primary motivation for using PV and battery systems is robust\, 24/7 backup power on demand. \nNationally\, extended utility disruptions caused by floods\, landslides\, wind storms\, ice storms\, geomagnetic solar storms\, hurricanes\, tornados\, wildfires\, public safety power shutoff (PSPS)\, earthquakes\, aged infrastructure\, replacement equipment shortages and deliberate sabotage\, populate the news with alarming frequency and severity. Which battery-based backup systems truly deliver\, meet and exceed customers’ expectations during long-term utility power outages? \nThis class promises to address how variously-scaled PV production and battery energy storage systems coupled with smart\, nimble\, robust and locally-controlled load management can respond to the ever increasing challenges threatening to shoot out the lights. In this class\, Erik Frye will discuss experiences of owners of micro grids and battery based grid tied PV systems\, including systems such as: \n\nTesla PowerWall\nEnphase Ensemble\nSolarEdge\nSol-Ark\nLFP vs NMC vs NCA\nSMA Sunny Island\nNon export / Net Zero self generation to meet self consumption with the added benefit of back up power\nStand alone micro grids for entirely off grid applications\nPG&E meter base automatic transfer switch\nFuture projections
