SUMMARY:Balanced Ventilation for Better Health\, Comfort\, and Energy Efficiency: System Types\, Install Strategies\, Duct Design and Critical Details
DESCRIPTION:Course description\n\n\n\n\n\nMore buildings are being constructed with high-performance building envelopes. For these buildings\, a well-designed and installed air quality system is a must. In this class we will look at performance-based design and installation practices that lead to effective ventilation and filtration systems. Examples of completed\, high-efficiency systems are presented to show how they were built and commissioned\, with instructor Dan Perunko of Balance Point Home Performance sharing lessons learned so others can avoid repeating them.

SUMMARY:Single Family Additions and Alterations: Energy Code Implementation Series\, with 2025 Code Updates
DESCRIPTION:Event Description \nAs the 2022 energy code wraps up its final year\, and the 2025 code emerges\, we see the trends of building electrification\, healthier indoor air quality and improved resiliency continue to permeate the code’s evolution. This series focuses on current best practices for implementation of energy strategies\, as well as what’s around the corner with the new code that will take effect Jan. 1\, 2026. With particular focus on the Central Coast region\, we’ll discuss on what to include in construction documents to streamline the permitting process and tips for construction to ease signoffs and occupancy for each building type. \n\nEnergy Code Implementation: Non-Residential\nEnergy Code Implementation: Single Family New Construction\nEnergy Code Implementation: Single Family Additions and Alterations (this course!)\nEnergy Code Implementation: ADUs\nEnergy Code Implementation: Multi-Family\n\nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand the current and upcoming metrics and standards used in the energy code for evaluating energy performance and indoor air quality\, and how choices for electric or gas equipment may impact compliance with those standards.\nWithin each building type\, review key mandatory measures related to energy performance\, ventilation\, refrigerants and insulation and review potential challenges for integration into design and construction.\nReview the prescriptive “recipe card” approach versus a building performance approach and discuss when to use each strategy to best incorporate energy efficiency and healthy interior environments into the specific project design.\nRecognize where barriers or stumbling blocks may occur within permitting and construction and tips for documentation to smooth out the process\, ultimately increasing the energy efficiency\, health and safety of our buildings.

SUMMARY:Building for the Future: Integrating Fire Resilience with Energy Efficiency in High-Performance Design
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an impactful webinar exploring how fire-resistant materials can align with energy-efficient design to create resilient\, sustainable buildings in wildfire-prone regions—ensuring both safety and climate resilience. \n\n\nThe increasing frequency and severity of wildfires in Northern and Southern California have raised urgent questions about how to build structures that can withstand these disasters. The consequences of these fires are devastating\, but they also offer an opportunity to rethink how we approach building design. As communities and industries grapple with the devastation caused by wildfires\, the construction sector is experiencing an increased demand for fire-resistant materials and resilient design strategies. But there is another layer to this challenge: how do we build structures that are not only fire-resistant but also energy-efficient and climate-resilient? \nRegister to save your spot for this in-depth exploration of the intersection between fire safety and energy efficiency in modern buildings. Hear from experts who will share case studies\, actionable strategies\, and the latest research on how to create buildings that are not only safer but also part of the climate solution. Learn how we can protect people\, buildings\, and the environment through innovative design solutions that stand the test of time and disasters alike.
