DESCRIPTION:Electrify My Home provides training based on real-world experience with residential electrification. With hundreds of high-performance projects completed to date\, Electrify My Home shares its experience with others in a fast-paced training program that will benefit all parts of your company. We share principles of “Install Small” and “Good Electrification” processes that will keep your customers satisfied while simultaneously optimizing future grid reliability. \nOnly enrolled TECH Clean California Participating Contractor company staff may take this course. Course registration will be verified to ensure Participating Contractor company has completed a Trade Professional Participation Agreement (TPPA). Registration may be canceled if a TPPA has not been completed prior to course start date. \nInstructor: \nLarry Waters: Founder\, “Electrify My Home LLC” \n\nLarry has 40 years HVAC trade experience in service\, installation\, sales\, and management. His specialization is house-as-a-system electrification and has coined the process and practices “Good Electrification” and “Install small” right sizing for climate and comfort. \nLarry spent the first ten years of his career working on Industrial and Commercial systems and later transitioned to residential HVAC. As a service technician and sales professional\, Larry has sold more than 20 million dollars of HVAC product. In 2011\, Larry obtained his BPI-certified Building Analyst certification and has concentrated on home performance ever since. Beginning in 2014\, Larry began focusing on replacing gas furnaces with high-efficiency heat pumps. He has since designed and installed over 400 electrification projects in the greater Bay Area of California. \nLarry started his all-electric gas conversion company\, Electrify My Home\, in 2019. Larry is an advisory board member of the Building Decarbonization Coalition and is still active as a Leading Light representative. Electrify My Home is a recognized trainer on residential home-electrification sales\, system-design\, and installation for the State of California’s TECH Initiative.

DESCRIPTION:Overview \nThe TECH & ESMAC (ENERGY STAR Heat Pump Water Heater Manufacturer Action Council) Heat Pump Water Heater Education includes a TECH overview\, ENERGY STAR® overview\, and a manufacturers heat pump water heater (HPWH) education session focused on technology features and benefits\, appropriate applications\, energy efficiency comparison to other water heater types\, installation techniques and best practices\, service support and warranty\, proper maintenance\, troubleshooting\, and selling strategies. \nAttending the TECH & ESMAC training is required for upcoming HPWH funds. \n• For onboarding purposes\, at least one individual from your organization must attend and complete the post-training survey. \n• All installers working on a project submitted to the program must also take either this training\, or a program approved manufacturer training. \n\n\nTopics Covered: \n• Key differences between standard gas and electric water heaters and heat pump water heaters. \n• Benefits and value propositions of HPWHs. \n• Installation best practices. \n• Location options\, space needs and considerations. \n• How to size appropriately. \n• Programming/operating modes. \n• Time-of-use and demand response capabilities. \n• Electrical requirements\, electric panel considerations. \n• Condensate management and drainage. \n• Thermostatic mixing valves\, recirculation pumps. \n• Noise/vibration considerations. \n• Guidance and best practices for warranty\, service support\, and maintenance. \n• Customer education – how to use\, what to expect\, addressing common concerns. \n• How to get further regional training and support. \n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n• Identify the key difference between standard water heaters and heat pump water heaters. \n• Explain the features and benefits of heat pump water heaters. \n• Identify dwelling and customer types that benefit the most from HPWH. \n• Calculate appropriate tank size based on dwelling and occupancy. \n• Describe installation best practices. \n• Describe service and maintenance best practices. \n• Demonstrate selling techniques and overcoming customer objections.
