SUMMARY:Elements Of A Whole House Assessment: The Home Energy Audit Explained
DESCRIPTION:Measured Home Performance is different from other approaches to saving energy and making money in the home improvement industry. The principal difference is the measured results of home performance contracting\, as opposed to the hoped for benefits offered by other contracting services. The measured home performance process begins with a thorough examination of the home using diagnostic test equipment to measure the current performance of the home and its mechanical systems with the ultimate goal of obtaining all the information needed to present a proposal\, which will save energy and meet the other needs of the homeowner. A clear understanding of how a home is performing takes much more than just a clipboard and a stroll around the house. In this session we will go through the process\, exploration and testing necessary to perform a comprehensive Home Energy Audit. \nInstructor: Judy Rachel\, Home Performance Pro

SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Electrification Opportunities for Plumbers
DESCRIPTION:Electrification is taking form in California – gas water heaters are being based out in the Bay Area by 2027 and over 70 municipalities have policies phasing out gas appliances. The massive transition from gas to electric will “spark” giant demand for all trades\, including plumbers. In this session\, Electrify My Home will introduce unique business opportunities for plumbers with a focus on heat pump water heaters\, strategies for collaborating with other trades (e.g.\, electricians)\, and the importance of comprehensive electrification planning.

SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Electrification Opportunities for Solar Installers
DESCRIPTION:California’s push for building electrification is quickly driving major changes in the residential energy sphere. Solar contractors\, designers\, and affiliated trades have the opportunity to capture additional market share by offering or referring gas-to-electric appliance services. This is especially important in light of recent NEM policy changes. Solar\, batteries\, and home appliance electrification offer a perfect match for getting customers to Zero Net Energy\, or at least minimizing operational costs. \nIn this session\, Electrify My Home will introduce basics of heat pumps as well as highlighting the business opportunities for solar professionals to add new services to their repertoire or to at least speak to these offerings with more confidence.

If so\, we look forward to you joining us for an Overview of Building Electrification! This class\, the second in a BE series\, being offered by the Energy Education Centers (EECs) will expand upon topics introduced in ‘Building Electrification and Me’. \nTaught by Kavita Rodrigues from the EECs\, this class will provide attendees with an expanded understanding of what BE is and how it will help California to achieve its ambitious climate goals. Participants will learn about the common misconceptions that are frequently held about electrification technologies\, their applications\, and how they can realize the overall benefits of electrification. \nInstructor Information: \nKavita Rodrigues \nKavita Rodrigues is an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Advisor at Southern California Edison. She has a Bachelor of Architecture from Manipal\, India and a Master of Building Science from USC. \nKavita’s career in architecture began in 2001 and has been centered on the idea ‘Form Follows Climate’. Her interest in sustainable design has been a driving force in her educational and career choices\, from designing passive houses in India to designing Zero Net Energy homes in California. \nIn 2011\, she was recruited by SCE to join the New Construction Services team\, reviewing projects and providing technical support to builders of energy efficient homes for the California Advanced Homes Program (CAHP). In 2018 Kavita helped design the Clean Energy and Resiliency Rebuild Program (CLEAR) for victims of natural disasters\, and the all-electric extension of CAHP. \nKavita presently works at SCE’s Energy Education Center creating and developing curriculum on Building Electrification and Decarbonization with the hope of educating a wide range of audiences on California’s climate goals\, the urgent need for decarbonizing the building sector\, and how building electrification will play a key role in the clean energy transition. \nAgenda: \n\nCalifornia’s Clean Climate Goals and Pathway 2045\nThe Basics of Building Electrification\nThe Relationship Between EE\, BE\, TE\, and DERs\nTechnology and Cost Trends\nDemystifying BE\nBE Preparedness\nFuture of Fossil Fuels in Buildings\nQuestion and Answers\n\nLearning Outcomes: \nAt the conclusion of this class participants will be able to: \n\nClearly define California’s climate goals and steps needed to achieve them\nCommunicate what BE is and what technologies are available\nExplain how EE\, BE\, TE\, and DERs will interact\nDescribe the steps needed to be prepared for an electric transition\nDiscuss the pros and cons of various clean fuel sources\n\nTarget Audience: \n\nGeneral Audience\nHomeowners\nResidential Installers\nCommercial Installers\nDesigners\nPlanners\nEngineers\nEnergy Managers\nFacility Owners/Operators\n\nPrerequisite(s): \n\nNone\n\nLearning Units: \n\nN/A\n\nLearning Level: \nBasic Class: Content is introductory in nature and requires no prerequisite knowledge or experience to grasp the concepts or participate in exercises. SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Heat Pump Zoning – Challenges And Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Part 5 of 5 – December 15\, 2023 (12pm – 1:30pm) \nZone control is a popular strategy for addressing different climate zones in a home. Many customers and contractors newer to heat pumps are drawn to multi-split systems that utilize a single outdoor unit to run multiple air handlers\, but there can be unintended comfort sacrifices if not done carefully. In this webinar\, we will focus on various approaches to zone control for efficient and comfortable outcomes. We will compare traditional zoning with zone control\, multi-split systems\, multiple one to one systems\, and combinations of these solutions. \nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\nElectrify Efficiently\nZone control strategies\nAvoiding comfort sacrifices with zone control\nDifferent approaches for zone control to achieve efficient\, comfortable outcomes\nQ&A\n\nThe objective of this course is that at the conclusion\, participants will be able to: \n\nSummarize operational differences between single-stage\, two-stage and inverter heat pumps\nName one downside of installing a single multi-split outdoor unit instead of multiple outdoor units\nExplain why many mini split brands do not work well with traditional zone control\nDescribe one scenario where installing a multi-split unit makes sense\n\nTo enroll into the entire “Electrify Efficiently (5 Part Series)” register HERE.

SUMMARY:Getting Past Heat Pump Objections
DESCRIPTION:Heat Pumps are quickly gaining traction as a preferred HVAC and water heating technology\, but many customers and contractors are unfamiliar with heat pumps or remain skeptical. In order to meet California’s ambitious heat pump goals (6 million by 2030)\, contractors and other industry professionals must arm themselves with the knowledge (and sometimes the data) to dispel myths about heat pumps. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll hear from Larry Waters\, an HVAC industry veteran who switched his focus towards home performance in 2010 and towards inverter heat pumps in 2014. With over 400 heat pump installations under his belt\, Larry’s heard just about every objection in the book and will relay best practices for responding to such objections. \nLearning Objectives \n\nExplain why understanding a customer’s personality profile is important\nList one of the first steps to take before addressing an objection\nDescribe one reason why older vintage heat pumps spoiled the opinions of some customers & HVAC pros\nOffer one alternative solution for a customer who does not want a wall-mounted mini split\n\n2 AIA LU’s available for this course \n.20 ICC CEU’s available for this course \nInstructors: \nLarry Waters\, Electrify My Home \nAlex Sloan\, Electrify My Home
