SUMMARY:Retrofitting Homes for Electrification and Decarbonization
DESCRIPTION:Discover how California’s push for decarbonization and new local rules against gas installations are shaping home electrification. Dan Perunko from Balance Point Home Performance will walk you through the key steps to electrify a single-family home and share practical strategies for whole-house retrofits. You’ll also see real-world case studies that show how homeowners have tackled challenges with existing infrastructure and prepared for backup power during Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events.

SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Overcoming Heat Pump Objections (Part 1 of 5)
DESCRIPTION:Heat Pumps are quickly gaining traction as a preferred HVAC and water heating technology. California has a goal for 6 million installed heat pumps by 2030\, and state plans indicate that new gas furnace and water heaters will not be permitted after 2030. While the path forward for heat pumps seems clear\, the technology is still foreign to most homeowners. To meet the above-mentioned goals\, contractors and other industry professionals must arm themselves with the knowledge (and sometimes the data) to dispel myths about heat pumps. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll hear from Larry Waters\, an HVAC industry veteran who switched his focus towards home performance in 2010 and towards inverter heat pumps in 2014. With over 400 heat pump installations under his belt\, Larry’s heard just about every objection in the book and will relay best practices for responding to such objections.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Heating and Cooling Load Calculations for Electrification Projects
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Judy Rachel will explain what a heating and cooling load calculation is and how it provides essential information for the successful implementation of electrification projects. Beyond providing the essential information for properly sizing a residence’s HVAC system\, the heating and cooling load calculation informs electrification project design and planning in significant ways. In addition\, this presentation will explore the business case for this important planning step within the construction process. \n  \nAccurately calculating the heating and cooling loads for a building provides the information necessary to choose appropriately sized space conditioning equipment. When pursuing electrification using right sized\, typically\, lower capacity HVAC equipment you will frequently negate the need for panel upgrades which provides a significant advantage in electrification projects. This contributes significantly to reducing project costs\, while saving on energy consumption and ongoing costs to comfortably condition a given home.

SUMMARY:Mechanical Rooms: Strategies for Electrification Retrofits in Homes
DESCRIPTION:For as long as we’ve built homes we’ve been using some kind of combustion to heat them. As a result\, our buildings are designed and constructed to safely manage the operation of gas appliances. In this webinar\, Dan Perunko of Balance Point Home Performance will look at mechanical rooms as we transition from gas appliances to electric appliances. There is an opportunity for contractors and designers to offer their clients additional efficiencies beyond those offered by the change to electric appliances. We will identify easily overlooked building enclosure and mechanical changes that can be incorporated into an electrification retrofit project. This three-hour webinar is based on completed projects and will have images of floor plans that illustrate the complexities of combustion appliance mechanical spaces and the opportunities available when they are electrified.
