SUMMARY:Optimizing Ducted Heat Pumps for Residential Electrification: Load Calculations\, Equipment Selection\, System Airflow and Layout
DESCRIPTION:This session will deal with design\, equipment choice and layout issues. The relevant performance factors are system capacity\, refrigerant charge and system airflow. We will review design\, installation and commissioning details for each of these performance factors. These performance factors can be applied to both conditioning and ventilation system ducts. We have designed\, built and commissioned both retrofit and new construction projects that exemplify the concepts covered in class. Course content will include design examples\, photos installations\, and test results from commissioning.

SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Home Heat Pumps Done Right - A Case Study (Part 4 of 5)
DESCRIPTION:The path to going all-electric can take many forms. For some\, this means upgrading one appliance at a time; for others\, it means replacing them all at once and offsetting with on-site solar. Regardless of the timeline\, there are some important planning steps that must take place\, as well as a continual vision for optimizing efficiency. Join Electrify My Home in this session for a case study of a customer’s electrification journey. You’ll also hear directly from the customer\, who will share why they went gas-free\, why they chose to pursue efficiency measures\, and what bumps in the road were faced on this adventure. \nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\nOverview of the Electrify My Home “Electrify Efficiently” webinar series\nThe electrification path/journey\nThings every customer (and contractor) should consider along the way\nElectrify My Home customer interview\nClass survey\, closing and wrap up

SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: The Why and How of Home Performance for Electrification
DESCRIPTION:As heat pumps begin to proliferate the market\, it’s important to recognize the importance of energy efficiency and home performance. Building systems are interdependent and it’s rare that addressing a single component will result in the most comfortable outcome. This session will highlight the importance of incorporating home performance concepts into heat pump projects or at least the home upgrade planning process. You’ll learn about unintended consequences of not incorporating home performance upgrades\, as well as the huge upsides when done correctly.

SUMMARY:Power Up Your Skills: Split System Heat Pump Water Heater Training & Trade Fair
DESCRIPTION:Boost your expertise in split system heat pump water heaters with training and direct access to top manufacturers. \n\n\n\n\nThis special event features a presentation from a leading installer of heat pump water heater installations\, along with interactive training\, and a manufacturer trade fair during Heat Pump Water Heater Week. Event attendees will explore split heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) through an immersive learning experience featuring interactive instruction and a manufacturer trade fair. Participants will learn how split heat HPWHs work\, how they differ from conventional and integrated systems\, and what to consider when evaluating applications and available products. \nWhy is this important?\nBuildings account for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions\, making efficient water heating a practical opportunity to reduce energy use. Heat pump water heaters use 75% less energy than conventional water heaters\, meeting hot water needs while lowering energy consumption and emissions. \nSplit HPWHs are an emerging technology that separates the compressor from the tank and places it outdoors. Several manufacturers have released new products in the past year\, making this a timely opportunity for contractors\, students\, and other interested participants to understand the technology and explore available options. The event will be offered in person\, and the presentations will be livestreamed for virtual participation \nAgenda\n8:30 a.m. arrival onsite\n9:00 – 10:30 a.m. presentation from installation trainer for in-person and online attendees\n10:30 – 11:00 a.m. presentations from manufacturers for in-person and online attendees\n11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. hands-on activities for in-person attendees\n12:00 – 1:00 p.m. lunch and conversations with manufacturers for in-person attendees \nLearning objectives\nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDescribe split heat pump water heaters and how they operate.\nExplain the benefits of split heat pump water heaters.\nUnderstand installation considerations for split system HPWHs.\nEvaluate and select split HPWH products.\n\nWhere: San Jose City College\, San Jose\, CA\nFind out more: Split System HPWH Event Flyer \nBrought to you by\nPG&E Energy Centers\, New Buildings Institute\, and the Advanced Water Heating Initiative
