SUMMARY:The Dangers of Burning Gas in the Home (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:In some ways\, burning gas in your home can be as dangerous as secondhand smoke. From nitrogen oxides to carbon monoxide to benzene\, combusting natural gas releases a whole cocktail of dangerous pollutants into our homes. \nJoin us for a webinar on the health risks of using natural gas indoors. A leading researcher and physician will share the latest findings on how gas appliances impact indoor air quality\, who is most vulnerable\, and how poor ventilation can significantly worsen the risks. \nIn this webinar our panelists will discuss: \n\nThe pollutants of natural gas combustion and what they do to the human body.\nCurrent research exposing the harms of natural gas use indoors.\nWhich natural gas burning appliances emit the most pollution.\nHow ventilation impacts indoor air quality and health risks.\nStrategies to reduce indoor pollution and associated risks\n\nPanelists: \nCurtis Nordgaard\, MD\, MSc – Dr Curtis Nordgaard is a Pediatrician practicing in the Minneapolis area\, and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He regularly discusses environmental health problems with families in clinic\, and studies the ways that natural gas impacts our health and our environment. \nEric Lebel\, PhD – Eric Lebel is a Senior Scientist at PSE Healthy Energy (www.psehealthyenergy.org)\, where he started in 2021 after he graduated from Stanford University with a PhD in Environmental Earth System Science. His research focuses on emissions of methane and health-damaging air pollutants in California\, with a focus on emissions from residential appliances. He has worked to develop new methods for quantifying these emissions and has designed and executed research campaigns to systematically quantify emissions and their impact on climate and public health.

SUMMARY:Induction Cooking: The High-Performance Way to Cook
DESCRIPTION:Induction is now entering the mainstream. As more and more people discover the benefits of cooking with induction\, the myth of the superiority of gas cooking is going up in flames. Induction cooking offers clear benefits for the environment and our health and safety\, but it also provides a better cooking experience. With more control\, faster heating\, and easy cleaning\, this technology is poised to transform the way we cook. \nJoin Electrify Now as we explore why and how to make the switch to induction. Our guest chef Rachelle Boucher will provide an interactive exploration and demonstration of induction cooking\, including the performance advantages of induction\, the pros and cons of cooktops versus ranges\, what features and options to consider and what you need to know to have one installed in your home. We’ll even cover tips on how to cook with induction to get the best results. \nThis webinar will answer the following questions and more: \n\nWhat is an induction stove and why do they offer a superior cooking performance?\nWhy is natural gas dangerous to use for cooking in your home?\nWhat brands are currently available?\nWhat are the features to look for in an induction range?\nHow much do induction stoves cost?\nWhat about the cookware?\nWhat are some tips for installing and using an induction stove?\n\nRSVP

SUMMARY:EN Webinar: Electric Yard Care – Ditch the Gas
DESCRIPTION:Electrifying your home means switching out everything that burns fossil fuels\, including your yard equipment. It’s easier than ever to take this affordable step towards home electrification with the efficient electric options for mowing\, leaf blowing\, trimming and edging on the market today. Battery-powered tools are much quieter to operate and require no messy filling with fuels and oil and virtually no maintenance. They start at the push of a button and produce zero carbon emissions or air pollution. Modern battery systems make them easy to recharge and all your tools can share the same batteries. \nJoin us for a 30-minute webinar in which we’ll discuss the advantages of battery powered electric equipment and answer any questions you may have about switching to this superior solution for yard care: \n\nWhy the noise\, air pollution\, carbon pollution and solid waste from gas powered tools have a surprisingly high negative impact on our environment\, and how electric power tools eliminate those problems.\nHow the latest generation of battery electric tools rival or surpass the performance of gas power tools and require virtually no maintenance.\nHow electric tools compare on cost of operation compared to gas models\, especially as fuel prices continue to rise and battery technology continues to improve.\nHow the power tool industry is moving in the direction of battery electric just like the automotive industry.\nHow to choose a reliable system of tools that best meets your needs and reduces equipment costs.\nTips for how to use batteries and maintain their maximum lifespan.\n\nDon’t miss this opportunity to make a positive impact on your yard and the environment! Join us to learn how to electrify your home and embrace a cleaner\, quieter\, and healthier outdoor space. \nRSVP \nThis webinar is part of the Electrify Now “Go Electric!” series developed in partnership with LEARN. Find more Go Electric! webinars with information and tips on other important electrification topics here. \nLEARN is a San Diego based workforce education and training program that has partnered with Electrify Now to offer free energy efficiency and electrification webinars. SUMMARY:EN Webinar: Air Source Heat Pumps – High Efficiency Heating and Cooling
DESCRIPTION:Learn about air source heat pump systems – the best way to heat and cool your home\, lower your energy bills and slash your carbon emissions. \nHeat pumps are 3-5 times more energy efficient than other heating and cooling systems like gas furnaces\, oil heat\, and electric baseboard heating\, and they provide comfort year-round. In this 30 minute webinar\, we’ll talk about how heat pumps work\, how they compare in cost and performance to gas and old electric systems\, tips to make your home more energy efficient\, and much more. \nAir source heat pumps move heat from one place to another\, rather than creating it\, which is why they’re so energy efficient. In cooling mode\, they act as air conditioners\, moving heat from the air inside your home to the outside. In heating mode\, they harvest heat from the air outside your home and move it to the inside. \nJoin us as we explore the many benefits of installing an air source heat pump. We’ll discuss: \n\nHow do heat pumps work\, and why are they so efficient?\nHow much energy can I save\, and how much will it lower my home’s carbon emissions?\nIs my house right for a heat pump?\nWhat is the difference between ducted and ductless heat pumps?\nHow much does a heat pump cost?\nAre there any incentives or tax credits to offset the cost?\nWhat steps should I take to install a heat pump?\nWhat questions should I ask my HVAC contractor to make sure I get the best result?\n\nHosts and Panelists: \nBrian Stewart – Brian co-founded of Electrify Now to help energy consumers and homeowners learn about the benefits of electrification. He has over 40 years of experience in product design\, engineering\, manufacturing and sustainability and held many leadership roles at Nike Inc. including Vice President of Sustainable Innovation. \nJoe Wachunas – In addition to his work for Electrify Now\, Joe is a Program Manager for the New Buildings Institute\, managing the Advanced Water Heating Initiative. He is a frequent contributor to CleanTechnica writing articles about topics relating to electrification and clean energy. Joe and his family use their own home to experiment and learn about all electric solutions\, solar power and EVs. \nCraig Aaker – Craig is the Operations Manager at GreenSavers\, a dedicated home performance contractor\, taking a systems approach to home improvements and a pioneer in home electrification work. They have won the Energy Star Home Performance Contractor of the Year Award for the last seven years in a row and they are a certified B Corporation
