SUMMARY:Systems Diagnostics Module (Part 5 & 6)
DESCRIPTION:This eight-part Intermediate-level series is designed to elevate HVAC professionals from basic troubleshooting to advanced system diagnostics. Built on the foundation of California Quality Installation (CAQI)\, Maintenance (CAQM)\, and Service (CAQS) standards\, the course guides technicians through a detailed step-by-step process: understanding reported symptoms\, gathering field data\, identifying root causes\, and applying corrective actions. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking\, accurate measurement\, client communication\, and professional judgment—skills required for modern\, efficient\, and code-compliant service in California’s demanding HVAC environment. \nPart 5: Evaluating and analyzing data collected and investigating causal relationships. \nPart 6: Testing hypotheses against the HVAC system and documenting and prioritizing probably root causes to prepare for an effective resolution strategy. \nMichael D. Griffin\, IHACI Instructor.\nMike Griffin owns and operates M&M General Repair and Airflow Specialties in the San Fernando Valley\, CA. He is a certified HERS Rater\, IHACI Instructor\, and Education Committee member. Mike is one of only 21 non-union Certified Mechanical Acceptance Testing Employers/Technicians in California. His companies specialize in energy efficiency verification\, HVAC diagnostics\, and compliance testing across Southern California. \nAndrew Smith\, IHACI Instructor.\nAndrew Smith has over 20 years of experience in the HVAC industry. He began his career as a helper\, working his way up to technician with a company specializing in residential and light commercial projects. Along the way\, he earned NATE certifications in air conditioning and heat pump service before advancing to the role of service manager. For the past 10 years\, Andrew has shared his expertise as an instructor with IHACI. He currently works for National Comfort Institute and has achieved his RSES CM certification.

SUMMARY:2025 Code Breaker: Energy Code Commissioning and Acceptance Testing Requirements
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an overview of the California Energy Code requirements for design review and building commissioning! The course will emphasize the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders involved in the design\, construction and commissioning process including the activities of building commissioning providers\, architects\, design engineers\, facility owners\, and Acceptance Test Technicians (ATTs). \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Outline the commissioning activities required by Title 24 Part 6 (Energy Code) and describe how these activities are to be documented.\n2. Recognize the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in the design\, construction\, acceptance\, and commissioning process.\n3. Determine the required Acceptance Testing requirements for new construction\, nonresidential projects.\n4. Explain how Acceptance Test Technicians are trained and certified to perform the required acceptance tests defined in the Energy Code. \nSME/Instructor Bio:\nMartyn C. Dodd\, Instructor\, Energy Code Ace\nHaving written software used in California for Title 24 energy code compliance since 1984\, Mr. Dodd is principal of EnergySoft\, a Bay Area company that specializes in performance-based energy analysis for Title 24 and LEED. He is one of the original authors of the 1992 Nonresidential Alternative Calculation Method (ACM) manual\, which defined the rules for code compliance software\, and became the model for both national and international code compliance software procedures. Mr. Dodd has been involved in the California standards development process for the past 5 decades and has consulted on the Title 24 rules and procedures extensively in that time.
