SUMMARY:System Diagnostics Module Part 4 (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:This 4-part series will review the basic definition\, description\, methodology\, outline and theory behind the system diagnostic process.  Operating aspects of Quality Design (QD)\, Quality Installation (QI)\, Quality Maintenance (QM)\, Quality Service (QS)\, and ultimately Quality Performance (QP) as they apply to the California Market (CAQD/CAQI/CAQM/CAQS/CAQP) and the diagnostic process will be covered as well.  The class will begin with the client’s reported symptom(s) or concern(s)\, covers the diagnostic tools and instruments used to obtain measurements of the system\, and provides the proper field techniques required to investigate the system by observing\, obtaining\, and recording all relevant information and data concerning the system.  The class will focus on the information provided by the client\, and the observations and data obtained by the field technician to evaluate\, analyze and ultimately identify the root cause(s) of the reported symptom(s).  The series concludes with the exploration of possible alternatives to simply replace the non-functioning or defective component\, examines the repair vs. replacement question\, covers reporting the diagnoses to the client\, the client’s decision making process\, outlines the proper corrective action to eliminate the symptom(s) or problem(s) and concludes by the field technician verifying that not only is the system working\, but is working safely\, reliably and operating at the highest capacity and energy efficiency possible.

SUMMARY:Air Distribution Module Part 4 (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:This 4-part series gives participants the comprehensive skill sets required to properly design\, install\, commission\, maintain\, service\, diagnose and verify that the air distribution systems they are working on are safe\, reliable and operate at the highest capacity and energy efficiency possible.  The class will start with reviewing the basic physical properties of air\, common definitions used in the trade psychometrics\, the comfort index\, indoor air quality and the practical fundamentals and theories used in all air distribution systems.  It continues with the review of proper Quality Design of air distribution systems as they apply to the California market (CAQI) using the equal friction method\, with the use of common HVAC industry ductulator we learn how to size the entire system for proper airflow\, correct air velocity\, and resizing of different duct configurations.  The class will cover the design of both residential and commercial air distribution systems using either flexible and / or metal duct material.  At the conclusion of Part 2\, the class will design a commercial flexible duct air distribution system that will be reviewed in Parts 3 and 4 of this series.

SUMMARY:Boiler Basics for Energy Efficiency
DESCRIPTION:This safety & operation efficiency seminar compliments our “Boiler Water Treatment for Energy Efficiency” seminar. Owners and operators of boilers will receive an explanation of boiler controls\, interlock safeties and combustion air requirements. They will also be presented with techniques which may help improve boiler and distribution system operation as well as increased efficiency. Air quality and boiler operation guidelines will also be discussed.\n\nPaul Howland has over 50 years of experience in Boiler & HVAC systems operation and maintenance. After serving in the US Navy as a Boiler Technician\, he worked at many large central heating and refrigeration plants as a Steam Engineer and instrument technician and moved on to manage large factory automation projects Hewlett-Packard\, Beckman Instruments\, and Emerson Electric\, while attending college.  Beginning as Central Plant Manager\, Paul retired from the University of California\, Irvine after 22 years as Executive Director of Facilities Management and two years as Facilities Director at CSU Long Beach. Paul is currently an instructor for the Building Operator Certification (BOC) program and an instructor with UC Irvine Department of Continuing Education in the Facilities Management Certificate program. Paul is also the COE of Hydro-Convergent Technologies Inc providing energy and water conservation solutions. \n*Course qualifies for BOC maintenance of certification points toward BOC Level I or Level II credential.
