SUMMARY:Electrify Efficiently: Overcoming Heat Pump Objections
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Electrify My Home continues this ‘lunch-and-learn’ webinar series focused on home electrification. The Electrify Efficiently webinar series will highlight the tremendous business opportunities\, vital role of efficiency\, and lessons learned from the field. Heat Pumps are quickly gaining traction as a preferred HVAC and water heating technology. California has a goal for 6 million installed heat pumps by 2030\, and state plans indicate that new gas furnace and water heaters will not be permitted after 2030. While the path forward for heat pumps seems clear\, the technology is still foreign to most homeowners. To meet the above-mentioned goals\, contractors and other industry professionals must arm themselves with the knowledge (and sometimes the data) to dispel myths about heat pumps. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll hear from Larry Waters\, an HVAC industry veteran who switched his focus towards home performance in 2010 and towards inverter heat pumps in 2014. With over 400 heat pump installations under his belt\, Larry’s heard just about every objection in the book and will relay best practices for responding to such objections. \nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\nOverview of the Electrify My Home “Electrify Efficiently” webinar series\nApproaching the house\nConsultative questioning to identify needs\nCommon objections to heat pumps and sample responses\nClass survey\, closing and wrap up\n\nThe objective of this course is that at the conclusion\, participants will be able to: \n\nDevelop two consultative questions that will help prepare a response to a customer’s objection\nDescribe one reason why older vintage heat pumps spoiled the opinions of some customers & HVAC pros\nName three features of gas appliances that are disadvantageous\nExplain why heat pumps are the perfect fit for California’s climate\nList five reasons why heat pumps are better than gas furnaces

SUMMARY:Elements Of A Whole House Assessment: The Home Energy Audit Explained
DESCRIPTION:Measured Home Performance is different from other approaches to saving energy and making money in the home improvement industry. The principal difference is the measured results of home performance contracting\, as opposed to the hoped for benefits offered by other contracting services. The measured home performance process begins with a thorough examination of the home using diagnostic test equipment to measure the current performance of the home and its mechanical systems with the ultimate goal of obtaining all the information needed to present a proposal\, which will save energy and meet the other needs of the homeowner. A clear understanding of how a home is performing takes much more than just a clipboard and a stroll around the house. In this session we will go through the process\, exploration and testing necessary to perform a comprehensive Home Energy Audit. \nInstructor: Judy Rachel\, Home Performance Pro

SUMMARY:An Overview of Building Electrification
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \nHave Energy Efficiency (EE)\, Building Electrification (BE)\, Transportation Electrification (TE)\, and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) got you feeling like you’re in over your head? If so\, we look forward to you joining us for an Overview of Building Electrification! This class\, the second in a BE series\, being offered by the Energy Education Centers (EECs) will expand upon topics introduced in ‘Building Electrification and Me’. \nTaught by Kavita Rodrigues from the EECs\, this class will provide attendees with an expanded understanding of what BE is and how it will help California to achieve its ambitious climate goals. Participants will learn about the common misconceptions that are frequently held about electrification technologies\, their applications\, and how they can realize the overall benefits of electrification. \nInstructor Information: \nKavita Rodrigues \nKavita Rodrigues is an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Advisor at Southern California Edison. She has a Bachelor of Architecture from Manipal\, India and a Master of Building Science from USC. \nKavita’s career in architecture began in 2001 and has been centered on the idea ‘Form Follows Climate’. Her interest in sustainable design has been a driving force in her educational and career choices\, from designing passive houses in India to designing Zero Net Energy homes in California. \nIn 2011\, she was recruited by SCE to join the New Construction Services team\, reviewing projects and providing technical support to builders of energy efficient homes for the California Advanced Homes Program (CAHP). In 2018 Kavita helped design the Clean Energy and Resiliency Rebuild Program (CLEAR) for victims of natural disasters\, and the all-electric extension of CAHP. \nKavita presently works at SCE’s Energy Education Center creating and developing curriculum on Building Electrification and Decarbonization with the hope of educating a wide range of audiences on California’s climate goals\, the urgent need for decarbonizing the building sector\, and how building electrification will play a key role in the clean energy transition. \nAgenda: \n\nCalifornia’s Clean Climate Goals and Pathway 2045\nThe Basics of Building Electrification\nThe Relationship Between EE\, BE\, TE\, and DERs\nTechnology and Cost Trends\nDemystifying BE\nBE Preparedness\nFuture of Fossil Fuels in Buildings\nQuestion and Answers\n\nLearning Outcomes: \nAt the conclusion of this class participants will be able to: \n\nClearly define California’s climate goals and steps needed to achieve them\nCommunicate what BE is and what technologies are available\nExplain how EE\, BE\, TE\, and DERs will interact\nDescribe the steps needed to be prepared for an electric transition\nDiscuss the pros and cons of various clean fuel sources\n\nTarget Audience: \n\nGeneral Audience\nHomeowners\nResidential Installers\nCommercial Installers\nDesigners\nPlanners\nEngineers\nEnergy Managers\nFacility Owners/Operators\n\nPrerequisite(s): \n\nNone\n\nLearning Units: \n\nN/A\n\nLearning Level: \nBasic Class: Content is introductory in nature and requires no prerequisite knowledge or experience to grasp the concepts or participate in exercises. Basic educational activities and materials are meant to establish a foundation of knowledge and competence that will be expanded upon in practice or in higher level seminars and workshops.
