SUMMARY:How Utility Savings Turn Into Long-Term Financial Returns: The Finical Case for Energy Saving High Performance Homes
DESCRIPTION:Energy costs have risen an average of 6.75% per year for nearly five decades — and the post-2020 average has accelerated to 9.3%. For builders\, realtors\, and real estate professionals\, this trend represents one of the most compelling and underutilized selling tools in the industry: the long-term financial case for energy-efficient homes. \nIn DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes\, Passive House\, RESNET\, trainings\, etc.\, we highlight that these homes save “x” money in energy costs annually. This session demonstrates how those savings accumulate over 10\, 20\, and 30 years\, emphasizing long-term financial benefits for buyers. \nThis session uses a real home design – a case study 1\,420 square foot Energy Star\, Zero Energy Ready Home rambler in Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, climate zone 6a – to illustrate the complete financial case for Net Zero Ready\, Passive House and Net Zero construction. We translate upgrade costs\, utility savings\, and energy inflation into a clear 30-year financial picture any buyer can grasp\, making the benefits tangible and applicable. \nAttendees will see how a Net Zero Ready upgrade costing as little as $6\,448 generates over $128\,000 in avoided utility costs over 30 years at the conservative historical rate – and how redirecting those savings into modest investment vehicles can foster long-term financial stability and peace of mind for homeowners. This highlights the positive financial future that energy-efficient homes can offer. \nThe session closes with a practical three-number framework for builders and realtors to use immediately in buyer conversations — no HERS scores required. This approach aims to make the participant feel confident and prepared\, demonstrating that building efficiently is now the most cost-effective option for new homes. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES  \n1. Explain the energy cost acceleration Explain why energy costs are rising faster than the historical average — including the impact of AI data center infrastructure buildout on grid demand — and articulate why this trend strengthens the financial case for energy-efficient homes. \n2. Calculate and communicate savings Calculate cumulative utility savings for Net Zero and Net Zero Ready homes correctly using compounding energy cost growth. Most new home buyers\, sales people\, etc. use a flat cost of energy over time to calculate money saved on energy bills. This is an incomplete method to calculate savings over time. This class will teach and communicate how to calculate those savings correctly over 10\, 20\, and 30-year time horizons and then clearly communicate to buyers. \n3. Demonstrate wealth-building potential and rebate impact Demonstrate how redirecting energy savings into investment vehicles generates long-term wealth for homeowners\, and identify how available utility rebates and state incentives reduce upfront upgrade costs for builders. \n4. Apply the three-number sales framework Apply a practical three-number sales framework — year-one savings\, net upgrade cost\, and payback period (ROI) – to real buyer conversations\, including how to move the conversation beyond payback period to long-term financial return.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Heating and Cooling Load Calculations for Electrification Projects
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Judy Rachel will explain what a heating and cooling load calculation is and how it provides essential information for the successful implementation of electrification projects. Beyond providing the essential information for properly sizing a residence’s HVAC system\, the heating and cooling load calculation informs electrification project design and planning in significant ways. In addition\, this presentation will explore the business case for this important planning step within the construction process. \nAccurately calculating the heating and cooling loads for a building provides the information necessary to choose appropriately sized space conditioning equipment. When pursuing electrification using right sized\, typically\, lower capacity HVAC equipment you will frequently negate the need for panel upgrades which provides a significant advantage in electrification projects. This contributes significantly to reducing project costs\, while saving on energy consumption and ongoing costs to comfortably condition a given home.

SUMMARY:Designing Heat Pump Retrofits That Won’t Come Back to Haunt You (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: (Online / 2:00pm – 4:00pm Pacific Time) \nVariable capacity heat pumps aren’t the future anymore. Top contractors have been installing them for years. But the challenges are real: the comfort complaint in February\, the humidity problem in July\, the electric bill the homeowner didn’t expect. Almost all trace back to a decision made during the design process. This session walks through the mistakes that cause them\, and how to catch each one before the equipment is installed\, covering the Manual J loads\, Total External Static Pressure\, and Manual S “advanced” procedures to variable capacity equipment. \nInstructor: Eric Fitz – Co-Founder\, Amply Energy (maker of ACCA-approved heat pump design software) – and ACCA Manual J Technical Committee Member \n  \nLearning Outcomes/Objectives: \n\nIdentify the Manual J input assumptions that most affect the load\nLearn two-minute field checks to verify key Manual J inputs\nMeasure total external static pressure to determine whether an existing duct system can support a new heat pump\nLocate design airflow and true capacity in manufacturer extended performance tables\nApply Manual S advanced procedures to variable capacity equipment\nEvaluate equipment selection trade-offs to choose the right size for the home (e.g.\, auxiliary heat\, low-load cycling\, design airflow\, and operating cost)\n\nTarget Audience: \n\nHVAC Contractors (Owner Operators)\nHVAC System Designers / Comfort Advisors\nHVAC/R Contractors (Installers / Technicians)\nHome Performance and Electrification Contractors\nConsulting Engineers / Designers\nHVAC/R Instructors\n\n  \nLearning Units: NATE CEUs apply (2 hr. credit) \n  \nLearning Level: \nIntermediate Class: Content is appropriate for individuals who possess a fundamental understanding of the topic and have familiarity with basic terminology and methodology of the subject matter. Attendees should have the capacity to participate in instructor-led exercises requiring synthesis and application of concepts. \nSpecial Instructions: \nThis is a Webinar class held via Microsoft Teams; internet access is required and use of the Teams app is encouraged. Customers will receive a link to the Webinar prior to the event. \nFor more information on Amply Energy\, contact a representative below: \nEric Fitz – efitz@amply.energy \nVisit Amply Energy at www.amply.energy
