SUMMARY:Marketing Budgets in 2025: What High Performance Contractors Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:The most successful high performance contractors are consistently reevaluating their marketing strategies. Two of the most important questions that home performance\, HVAC\, and solar contractors are asking in early 2025 are\, “What type of marketing will help me grow my business this year?” and “How much of my budget should I be spending on marketing?” On Wednesday\, January 8\, at 5 pm ET\, Energy Circle CEO and Founder Peter Troast will be kicking off the new year with his thoughts on effective marketing in 2025\, including a look at what you should be spending to be competitive\, the impact of marketing spend in a down economy\, changes in marketing tactic costs\, and the shift in importance towards demand creation marketing.

SUMMARY:Financials of Solar & Storage (Battery)
DESCRIPTION:Evaluating the financials of solar projects with and without battery storage can be complex. This class will give attendees the ability to evaluate solar decisions for their own projects with the same financial metrics used in business. We will make use of PG&E’s WattPlan Solar Calculator tool to calculate utility costs with various inputs such as usage of the house\, solar system size\, battery size\, and rate plan. We will use scenarios such as EV charging and all-electric home remodels to show how to design a renewable energy system with future changes to electricity use taken into account. Current tax credits and typical PV costs will be used to approximate real world decisions. The instructor is an energy consultant with a degree in Economics and an MBA with extensive experience helping clients make their decisions around renewable energy systems.

SUMMARY:ir Sealing New\, Retro and Passive Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Designing and constructing airtight houses and buildings allows for projects that need less heating and cooling. As a result\, it is less costly to attain zero carbon as proper air sealing saves energy and results in smaller mechanical equipment. Achieving super airtight assemblies is about the correct mind set as well as proper protocol and materials. This class will allow you to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to achieve your project’s air sealing goals. Terry Nordbye will demonstrate step by step procedures and materials to air seal a new construction house\, including Passive House\, to virtually any airtightness and achieve deep reductions in retrofit work. You will be shown all steps from planning to construction and learn why\, where\, and when to air seal.

SUMMARY:Novel Heat Pump Applications for New Construction and Retrofits
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar in which we discuss groundbreaking ways to approach heat pumps that can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of retrofits and new construction. Traditional approaches\, like Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems and 1-to-1 mini splits\, have drawbacks like high embodied carbon\, or face challenges with new refrigerant requirements\, central system complexities\, or space limitations with existing buildings. This webinar explores a series of novel heat pump solutions—large geothermal\, window saddle units\, packaged terminal heat pumps\, and air-to-water hydronic systems—that offer more variable electrification options. Join us to learn how these applications can transform the way we think about heat pumps\, and to explore how applications of these technologies differ in climate zones\, building typologies\, and construction markets.

What are the costs to install and operate this equipment? Are there incentives available to aid in this transition? What are the benefits both financial and non-financial? Do you need a new electric panel? This workshop will address all those questions covering the general cost of equipment\, how to think incrementally as you transition and the benefits of planning out your transition regardless of where you are in the process\, utility rates and rebates available to help pay for the changes. \nInstructor Information: Scott Blunk \nScott is a Strategic Planner of Electrification and Energy Efficiency where he creates utility wide electrification strategies. He is an Adjunct Professor of Building Science at Cosumnes River College where he has taught courses on the energy codes and mechanical codes\, energy auditing and energy modeling. \nScott received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Marquette University. Scott has worked in the field of green building and energy efficiency for 20 years in many different rolls including: building contractor\, energy consultant\, new construction residential program administrator\, existing building program manager\, mechanical engineer\, energy rater\, trainer\, and real estate broker. \nLearning Outcomes: \nAt the conclusion of this class participants will be able to: \n\nHow to plan out your electrification project(s)\nLearn about the costs you can expect to pay for each project\nUnderstand utility rates and changes to your energy bills\nFind out about SCE and statewide rebates\n\nTarget Audience: \n\nGeneral Audience\nHomeowners\nResidential Installers\nDesigners\n\nLearning Units: \n\nThis class will also provide prerequisite and continuing education credit for NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certifications.\n\nLearning Level:\nBasic Class: Content is introductory in nature and requires no prerequisite knowledge or experience to grasp the concepts or participate in exercises. Basic educational activities and materials are meant to establish a foundation of knowledge and competence that will be expanded upon in practice or in higher level seminars and workshops. \nSpecial Instructions:\nThis is a Webinar class and internet access is required. Customers will receive a link the Friday prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Appliances and Energy Storage – Part 5: All-Electric Design and Construction Series
DESCRIPTION:Event Description \nAll-Electric Design & Construction Series \nOn the path to Zero Net Carbon Design\, building electrification is the key to reducing operational carbon. In this course\, we’ll share the nuts and bolts of incorporating all-electric systems into residential and small commercial projects\, including tips for implementation as well as client communication. We’ll provide straight-forward information on current systems and technologies plus a look ahead at what’s emerging in the market. \n\nPart 1: Carbon Reduction through Building Electrification will address California’s targets for carbon reduction\, status of the clean power grid\, the role of energy storage and emerging options for refrigerants.\nPart 2: Heat Pumps for Heating and Cooling will address ducted and ductless heat pumps for thermal comfort.\nPart 3: Domestic Hot Water\, will focus on integrated and split-system Heat Pump Water Heaters\, as well as combination systems and point-of-use electric resistance water heaters\nPart 4: Ventilation and HRV\, will look at exhaust fans\, ducted ventilation and heat recovery ventilators that support energy efficiency and healthy interiors\nPart 5: Appliances & Energy Storage\, looks at electric options for cooktops\, dryers and other appliances as well as current and emerging battery technologies for energy storage.\n\nThis series has been developed to fulfill the California requirement for five hours of ZNCD education as part of architecture license renewal. Although created with architects in mind\, the content is broadly applicable across the building industry. \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nLearn the ‘why’ behind California’s shift to building electrification and the link to Zero Net Carbon Design\nLearn the pros and cons of various products to help in selecting appropriate systems that meet electrification and carbon-reduction goals\nLearn critical installation details such as dimensions and venting to call out in plans and/or identify early in construction\nUnderstand the local market for specific all-electric/ZNCD equipment\, including cost\, availability and lead times\n\n  \nLearning Units \n1.0 AIA HSW LU approved for this course
