CalCERTS no longer a HERS Provider

On July 22, 2024, CalCERTS announced it would cease operating as a HERS provider. Consultants, Contractors, and Raters were given until August 2nd to finish projects in the CalCERTS registry, and that registry will be removed from public access on September 2, 2024.

CHEERS, the other certified HERS provider, will remain open and expand the available forms and training to accommodate projects that need to be transferred.

What does this mean to you? Going forward, until further notice, CHEERS will be the only HERS Provider. Any new projects will need to be started and completed in CHEERS, and projects that were started in CalCERTS will need to be transferred or restarted in CHEERS.

Contractors/Consultants will need to register for a free account at www.cheers.org and become familiar with the data entry process for the Certificate of Compliance (CF1R) and Certificate of Installation (CF2R) forms.

Raters who are currently certified by CalCERTS and in good standing will be able to complete a process to become cross-certified with CHEERS at no cost and without additional training.

The bottom line is we’ve seen this before. HERS providers are constantly changing and the industry always adjusts.

The CEC (California Energy Commission) will continue to provide support and updates for the public as this transition occurs.  For SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) participating contractors – reach out to contractorsupport@efficiencyfirstca.org if you need help. We are here for you!
