Mini Split Design, Installation, and Performance (Part 2 of 2)

November 17, 2026

Part two of this series will discuss installation best practices including line set construction and leak management as well as duct system design and installation. There is clear evidence that refrigerant release poses a significant hazard to our environment and Dan Perunko will review best practices to minimize this issue. Finally, this session will look at the new refrigerants options that are entering the market place.

Agenda:

  • Introduction and safety message
  • Class poll: refrigerant types, global warming interactions, best practices for line set installation
  • Air quality issues and control, ventilation, filtration
  • Ducted systems airflow requirements
  • Low static duct system design and installation
  • Filter choices
  • Control options
  • Class poll: air quality, ventilation, filtration, low static duct systems
  • Q&A

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the common types of mini split systems used in residential and light commercial buildings
  • Discuss the pros and cons of different mini split system types, including items related to both room comfort and system efficiency
  • Identify critical installation issues
  • Demonstrate line set testing best practices related to leak prevention
  • Describe how different successful duct installation needs to be for mini split systems compared to typical equipment
  • Explain the role of released refrigerants in global climate change
  • Recognize and and retrain field staff on proper use of new refrigerants
